The Best Touch Came From Miles Away

Sometimes a toy is not just a toy. It becomes a small bridge between bodies, between conversations, and between who you were and who you are learning to be.

I’m no stranger to adult toys. Like, this was not my first “oh my god what is this” moment or anything. I’ve had a few over the years, and I’ve tried app-controlled ones before too. So when I first found Lovense, I honestly thought it would just be another fun thing to mess around with.

And yeah, it was fun. Obviously.
But it kind of snuck up on me in a way I didn’t expect. At first I was just being nosy with the app. Trying patterns, clicking around, seeing what did what. Some settings I liked right away, some I absolutely did not, and some made me go “wait, okay, maybe I’m into that.” Which was funny, because I thought I already knew myself pretty well.

Apparently not. The more I used it, the more I started paying attention to my own body instead of just going through the usual routine. I tried things slower. I tried things differently. I got curious in a way that felt less like performing and more like actually listening to myself.

That part surprised me.

Being queer, I’ve had a weird relationship with my body sometimes. Not bad exactly, just complicated. There are pieces of yourself you accept in your head before you really feel them in your body, if that makes sense. Lovense gave me this little private space to figure some of that out without making it a big serious thing.

It also made talking to partners easier. Not magically easy, because I still get awkward, but easier. Sometimes it’s hard to just say, “hey, I like this” or “can we try that?” Having the toy there gave the conversation somewhere to start.
And then there’s the long-distance part.

My partner and I are not in the same place, and I hate that more than I can explain without sounding dramatic. You miss touch, but you also miss stupid little normal things. Being close on the couch. A hand on your back. Someone being right there.

The app obviously does not replace that. I don’t think anything really does.
But it helped us feel less far away. Some nights it was sexy. Some nights it was silly because one of us would mess up the controls or pick a pattern that was way too much. Some nights it just made me feel wanted, which matters a lot when the person you love is miles away.

So I guess Lovense ended up being more than I thought it would be.
Not in a perfect, movie-moment way. More like this small thing that kept opening doors I didn’t know were still closed. It helped me explore, talk more honestly, and feel a little more at home in my own skin.
