Interesting Clitoris Facts To Make You Feel Powerful

Even if you have one, you might not be aware of all the awesome things that surrounding this body part. Here are some interesting and eye-brow-raising facts about the clitoris.

NOT THE VAGINA

It’s easy to lump everything “down there” with the word “vagina” but that’s not correct. It’s not part of the vagina, it’s part of the VULVA – the external stuff. The vagina is actually just the tunnel (where the penis goes in and babies come out).

BIGGER ON THE INSIDE

You might picture the clit being this tiny, shiny bean or dot, but it’s actualy much bigger. There are two side glans under the skin that are also part of this fun body part.

PENIS RELATION

Think of the clit and the penis as cousins – they both get erections and are the cause of orgasms.

If you flipped the full clitoris to the outside of the body, it wouldn't be very different from a penis. In fact, most parts of the clitoris have analogous counterparts to the penis. The Y chromosome of the male takes the embryological tissues down the pathway to become the male genitalia," explains Dr. Gersh. "You could consider the penis to be a very large, modified clitoris."

NEAR THE G-SPOT

If you don't know where the g-spot is … it’s on the anterior wall of the vagina. It’s where the two halves of the clit join. Pressure there can be picked up in the clit. Such an amazing orgasm!

The G-spot is located on the anterior wall of the vagina. You can reach it by inserting one or two fingers or a G-spot wand into the vagina and tilting upward toward the belly button, behind the pubic bone. It's more like an area than an actual spot.

JUST PLEASURE

The sole function of the clit … just pleasure. That’s right – no hormones, filtering, pumping … just pleasure.

WAS A MYSTERY

It wasn’t until after 1998 did people realize what the clitoris really was. Helen O'Connell, an Australian urologist, did an MRI and found it to be a very amazing organ. Yep,  with all the things we’ve learned … it’s taken us forever to figure the vulva out.

IT’S VERY SENSITIVE

The clit has the most nerves of the entire vulva. It has over 8000 nerve endings (twice as much as a penis).

The clitoris is the most nerve-rich part of the vulva, says Debra Herbenick, PhD, a sexual health educator from The Kinsey Institute. The glans contains about 8,000 nerve endings and spreads the feeling to 15,000 other nerves in the pelvis, making it the pleasure powerhouse.

THEY ARE UNIQUE

You’ve probably heard that it can be hard to please a woman – that the “how-to” videos don’t always help. This is because it’s true…clits can vary in size and sensitivity. It’s one of the many reasons people need to communicate when they are having sex. It’s doesn’t mean the person is a bad lover, they just haven’t learned the roadmap yet.

IT GROWS

I’m no talking erections. I’m talking the mileage of life and years. If your boobs and other body parts can change and sag with age, so can your clitoris. Hormones can change its size and it’s completely normal.

CLITORAL Os

For 80 % of women, the clit is the key to an orgasm, and they cannot reach it through vaginal penetration. When you have a vagina and clit peak a the same time, it’s called a “blended orgasm” – I learned something new today.

IT’S NAME

Etymologists aren't exactly sure where the word comes from. There’s debate that the spelling could be Greek in origin and base, but beyond that, there are not sure.
