Want to get into kitty play? Here's now you get started...

BUDGET

With any BDSM passion, you can spend as much or as little as you want/can. Personally, I suggest going on the cheaper side if you’re just getting into this kink – this way, if it ends up you don’t like certain things, you haven’t wasted much money.

I’ve seen products sell exponentially higher just because it has the term BDSM or whatever attached to it – this is only necessary if it’s something that requires body-safe materials, construction, etc. (things like sex toys). But for a water bowl, no thank you.

WHERE TO LOOK

  • Dollar or discount stores
  • Hardware stores (you never know what you might find)
  • Pet stores (a tad more expensive and no “human sizes”
  • Online

SIDE NOTE: Usually I would recommend second-hand stores (and I still do), but I would advise caution and simple logic with what you procure. It can be a place to find fabric if you want to sew your own “pet” blanket, kitty ears, and whatnot. Not a place for collars or food containers.

PROCUREMENT ORDER

If you’re not sure what to get, here is a list of fun things you can get for yourself or a human kitty cat. However, please keep in mind that this list is entirely subjective – you can buy these in any order or all at once if you want.

EARS AND TAILS

This is the best place to start and there is something for everyone. Hit up the dollar store or costume shops for easy grabs. But if you’re looking for something a bit cuter, fuzzy, or custom, there are many choices online. Dedicated stores will have unique designs. Etsy will have variety. Amazon is a bit hit or miss. https://kittensandkink.com/collections is another place to peruse.

PAWS OR SOCKS

The next step is getting hands and feet into character. A beginner step is knee-high socks with cat paw prints or fuzzy leg warmers (imagine something out of a Cats musical). If bondage is more your thing, you can hunt down some bondage paws – from fake leather to real animal skin.

COLLARS

Some people in the BDSM community take collars very seriously (almost like an engagement or wedding ring). Others just use them for fun. There are those that love them and those that get panic attacks wearing them. If you’re up for it, try one with a cute bell. Adding a leash could be fun – not really a cat thing, but it’s still an entertaining accessory.

TOYS

Go to the dollar or pet store and load up on tons of entertainment for your human kitty. Stuffed animals in the shape of fish or mice, rolly balls, etc. If the cat personal is the cool/bratty feline, they could ignore your expensive gifts and just play with the cardboard boxes and wrapping instead :P

“CATNIP”

This plant doesn’t have the same effect on humans – even though some do drink it in teas. I would recommend against using it and try and alternative.

  • Lavender is calming
  • Peppermint is invigorating
  • Sage, thyme, and rosemary are wonderfully pungent

If fresh herbs aren’t really an option, you can add a couple of drops of essential oil on the toys, bed, or accessories. They can just be something you like the smell of, or, if you want to check out an aromatherapy plan, you can choose an oil that also helps out in the health department.

MAKING THE KITTY PRETTY

Aside from a good chin scratch, another activity you can try is different kinds of grooming – rushing hair, giving a bath, trimming nails, etc.

FELINE FOOD AND DRINK

No, you’re not going to open up a can of cat food and plop it on a plate. But there are so many human foods that can be used instead. Try baking cookies as little treats. Ground beef, trail mix, and chopped up dried fruit can be cat kibble. Tuna, other fish, milk, goldfish crackers are also great snacks. Don’t forget some healthy water!

BOWLS

You can’t have food without a bowl to put it in. Take a peek online and you’ll see there are soooo many choices. My favorite is the ones with cat faces.

A PLACE TO SLEEP

If you want to go a bit more hardcore into your play, try setting up a warm place for your kitty to curl up and have a nap. It could be just a blanket or a bit more extravagant like an actual pet bed.
